About Research Matters
For over a decade, we have been dedicated to the cause of science communication in India, with an ambitious goal to raise the bar of scientific literacy in the country. Beginning our journey with the Science Media Center at IISc in 2014, our mission has transformed to encompass research from across the nation, which has evolved into what is now Research Matters. We not only provide insightful research-based stories but have also ventured into videos, podcasts, SciQs, op-eds, and features, expanding our reach into regional languages including ಕನ್ನಡ (Kannada), हिंदी (Hindi), मराठी (Marathi), தமிழ் (Tamil), and অসমীয়া (Assamese).
The past few years, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic, posed significant challenges for us, and we deeply apologize for our irregular content. Despite these hiccups, we managed to publish over 2,500 popular science stories that are freely accessible. Among these, more than 400 stories have been picked up by different print and internet media, resulting in more than 1,000 unique appearances. In addition, thanks to each one of you, we have managed cumulative page views of over 23 million on our website, attracting over 2 million unique visitors and also have over 7 million impressions on X (previously Twitter).
We are thrilled to announce that we are back, rejuvenated and ready to engage you with our re-launched newsletter! It is brimming with even more enriching content—from research articles, science and technology news, events, fun science facts, toons, infographics, puzzles, and games—there’s something for everyone.
Additionally, we’re proud to share that Gubbi Labs has won a grant as part of the Journalism AI Innovation Challenge by PolisLSE, with support from the Google News Initiative. This will allow us to optimize the science news cycle and modernize our newsroom with Generative AI tools and solutions, to amplify our science communication efforts.
As we embrace India's One Nation One Subscription initiative, aimed at increased accessibility for researchers, Research Matters is committed to bridging the gap between science and society, ensuring that important research reaches the broader public.
